Britax Roundabout Car Seats

Looking for a car seat for your child? Well...you can stop looking. :) Here at RoundaboutCarSeat.org, we've researched various car seats available on the market today, and below are our results. So pull up a chair, crack open a cold beverage, and here we go.

As we all know, a car seat is necessary when you travel with little ones in an automobile. The use of car seats has significantly reduced the rate of children deaths who were involved in traffic accidents. So whether you are going out for a short trip to the mall, taking a ride to your child's pediatrician for a checkup, or driving cross country on vacation, putting your child in a car seat plays a huge role in keeping your child safe.

The Advantages of Car Seats

A lot of us grew up with our parents not using car seats, so it is normal for some to wonder and question if car seats are really that important when traveling with kids. Below are listed the main advantages:

  • Car seats keep your child in one place.

Car seats were made to keep your child in the seat at all times. So in the event that you are involved in a traffic accident, if your child is in the car seat, he or she will not be thrown out the window or roll and hit different parts of the car which can lead to serious physical injury.

  • Car seats were designed and made for children with them in mind.

Car seatbelts were designed to fit adults, and when you are traveling with your kids, notice how the seatbelts just don’t hold them in place and how they can squirm around in the seat until they’re loose. Rear facing car seats are best for infants who are less than a year old and weigh 20 pounds. Children who are one to four years old weighing 20-40 pounds can make use of a front-facing car seat. For those who are 4-8 years old, using a booster seat is ideal until your child outgrows it and then a regular adult seat can be used.

  • Car seats reduce death among children involved in vehicular accidents.

As mentioned above, car seats keep your child in place and according to research, there was a reduction of 71% in deaths of infants less than a year old. Fatalities of children in traffic accidents who are aged 1-4 years old were reduced by more than half. These numbers alone prove what a necessity having a car seat is.

So now that we know the importance of having a car seat, let’s look at a couple of the top car seats on the market along with some corresponding features.

I searched for months before buying this seat for my daughter. I read lots of reviews on the internet and had a hard time deciding if I should spend [my money] on this seat of just buy a cheaper one. I am so happy that I went ahead and spent the extra money. This seat is SO worth it. The print is great and the fabric is very easy to clean. My daughter loves to snack in the car and can make quite a mess. I just vacuum the crumbs occasionally and wipe down any other messes with a damp cloth. The straps have never gotten twisted or tangled like some other cheaper seats do. I used this seat in the rear-facing position for about 3 months until my daughter was big enough to turn forwards. It was very easy to use in this position as well. I love the button you push to loosen the straps and it was still easy to use even in the rear facing position (this is a problem in some other convertible seats). I highly recommend this product!!! – S. Long.

Like the other purchasers who have reviewed, we did a LOT of research before picking this car seat. The safety ratings and reputation of Britax made the difference for us. Some of our friends have used other Britax models, and they all loved them. We purchased one for each of our cars and they have been great. Easy to adjust as our daughter has grown and still comfortable for her. This is really a great car seat. – R. Justice.

We bought this car seat for our 9 month old son when he was at the height limit for his infant carrier. Our son is in the 95th percentile for height and weight, so we wanted a car seat with a little heavier weight limit rear and forward facing, as well as a high safety record and good reviews. So far this car seat is meeting and even exceeding our expectations. We also have a Graco ComfortSport--the Britax Roundabout was easier to install, much easier to adjust the harness (when rear-facing), has no tangle straps, and we love being able to use the tether rear-facing for added stability. – A. Niese

Britax is one of the highest safety rated car seats and we were glad to get a great deal on one from Amazon. The color and fabric is great, not too hard to install just read all the directions, we took it by a car seat check point. This is the 2nd Roundabout 50 we have purchased, our son was 6 months when we bought the first one and we are still using it rear facing. I would recommend it to anyone. – J. Bradshaw

After spending much of my time reviewing convertible car seats, I was able to narrow my decision to the Britax Marathon. The Marathon with its five point harness allows your child to remain in this seat until 49" and or 65 lbs, which is equivalent to a five year old. Thats reassuring considering that most boosters start at 30lbs and just use a shoulder/lap belt combination until your child out grows their seat. I also like the fact how easy the Britax Marathon was to install. Just latch in and tether down and your seat is safe and secure. – Alice Lathers

(…) We choose the Marathon specifically because it can hold a child up to 65lbs. Yes, this car seat is larger and heavier than others, but I would not trade it for anything else. The seat fits very comfortably in the back of our Honda Civic and does not obstruct any views from the rearview mirror. (…)We never, never have a problem getting it to fit correctly in any type of vehicle. (…) More important than my love for this seat is my son's. He loves the incredible views provided from the seat and the comfort as well. When he naps his head never falls forward or looks like it is in an uncomfortable position. He sleeps as soundly in the seat as in his bed. My son fits securely in the seat, yet it is large enough it makes him feel like he has space to move. With all the travel and use this seat is cleaned frequently. I can't believe how easy it is to disassemble and wash and you don't have to video tape yourself taking it apart to remember how to get it back together. I just can't say enough awesome things about this seat. I am so glad that I found this seat and would encourage anyone to take advantage of the many great and easy to use features. – Book Mom

To finish up, here are some useful tips to help you when choosing which car seat to buy:

  • The car seat should fit securely and be installed in your car safely.
  • You should not have any problems in getting your child in and out of the seat, as well as installing and reinstalling the car seat in your vehicle.
  • In terms of value for money, consider how long your child will be able to use this seat comfortably.
